Beautiful, haunting and gripping tale about heroism in the world beyond. -sjk
“Positively uninviting.”
“You’d think the Crown Cathedral would be classier.”
Two men stood just past the large marble doors leading to the central chamber. The sanctum’s immensity seemed to defy physics. The dome reached up forever, being obscured in darkness before any end could be seen. Hundreds of human statues were carved into the walls, their limbs and bodies twisting upon each other endlessly as they clawed upwards for something unseen. The eyes of each statue glowed with a gentle blue light barely lighting the chamber.
THE FOG: Rap

Simply great. Just listen! -sjk
I wrote and produced a song about Hercules, from a more internal perspective. My friend, who is a recording artist, rapped on the track for me, while I co-produced and wrote the song's vocals. The hook which says "The snake, the boar, the cat, the dog. How you gonna beat them when you livin' in the fog?" alludes to a few of Hercules's labours (Hydra, Erymanthean Boar, Nemean Lion, Cerberus), and speaks of how he needs to overcome his internal demons to defeat his external ones. I also wrote the verse with Athena speaking of how she helped Hercules, almost like a 'guardian angel'. Athena's "voice" is recorded with some overlaying masks so as to differentiate between the different people speaking.

Intelligent execution of an interesting topic in traditional form -sjk
Abstract:
Heroes can play an important role in shaping the views and instilling certain social and cultural values in the audience. This is why the way fictional and historical heroes are portrayed at anytime in history is coherent with the sociopolitical views and the cultural identity of the public. This paper focuses on American comic book superheroes as an example of the American Monomythic superheroes and explores what they represent and the connection they have with the society and politics of the time. The major focus of this paper is to scrutinize the link between the society, politics, and the message of superheroes to show how they were used in propaganda.

insightful compendium for new popular literature -sjk
Female characters are not new to media but the type of representation of females is new. In the 21st century, we have moved away from the stereotypical and patriarchal view of women and called for a diverse and real representation of women...
... And these kinds of female heroes are important for the younger demographic because we as a society and generation want to teach little girls that they are not inferior to males and they are just as capable and powerful as anyone else. Little girls need role models that fight against gender stereotypes and show that there is not one kind of female, but all different and unique females; femininity is whatever you make it.
So here are a few of my favourite heroines of YA literature who do just that...

A hilarious take on the heroes Odysseus and Herakles, who are actually... candies! -sjk
